Riding through Hollywood the other day, Jessica and I saw a really striking poster of Barack Obama in a storefront window. We both made a note of the stylized illustration and the "Hope" slogan. It kind of looked like old-style communist propaganda, appropriated for the campaign of the popular Democrat.
Turns out these posters were a special design of L.A.-based Shepard Fairey, of Obey Giant. I’d never heard of him before, but I understand he’s pretty well known here and makes heavy use of the propaganda aesthetic. Anyway, we thought the poster was quite memorable. It also appears to be sold out, although Obey might release more soon. It also appears everyone knows about this poster and desginer but me.
Dude, you’ve never heard of Shepard Fairey? haha. That part I can understand, but you knew all about the Obey campaign, right? Get outta the card rooms once in a while.
Hi there. Where in Hollywood did you see these posters?
Thank.
